Researching the FAULKNER family from Co Donegal. James Faulkner (a ships carpenter) married Mary IRWIN about 1850 they had three children that I know of. John FAULKNER was born about 1853 and arrived in New Zealand aboard the "Adamant" in 1875 with 2 IRWIN sisters Margaret and Elizabeth. John married Mary McNELLY on 31 May 1884 in Invercargill New Zealand and they had 14 children.
James FAULKNER according to remnants of a family letter "went to America"and I have been unable to find out anything further.
Mary FAULKNER also came to New Zealand and she married John TOOMEY from Limerick at Invercargill on 28 May 1889.

Daniel McNALLY (McNELLY) came from Co Armagh, I am not sure where but I have him first marrying Jean MAGLONE c1822 at the parish church in Middletown and there were 3 daughters of the marriage. Then about 1833 he married Ann McGURK from Sheetrim in the Parish Church in Middletown and there were a further 4 daughters and 2 sons, one of whom, Francis McNALLY came to New Zealand in the 1860's and married Bridget FORDE.

FORDE's from Annaghdown Co GALWAY

William FORDE born c 1800 married Margaret KANE and the only family of whom I have absolute proof are John, Charles, Ellen, Elizabeth and Bridget. I am aware there may be a son William as well as other children. Of these John and Bridget came to New Zealand and settled while their brother Charles did come to NZ there is no sign of him having settled here. The family came from the ancient village of Annaghdown in Co Galway on the shores of Lough Corrib. John came to New Zealand first then Bridget and Charles followed him in 1861. Bridget married Francis McNally in Invercargill and raised a family of nine children.

I have managed to find the McMILLE(A)N family in the townland of Shanoeguestown in the Parish of Grange of Muckamore in Co Antrim. John McMILLEN (father William McMILLEN) married Nancy ADAMS (daughter of David Adams a land surveyor)on the 1st of December 1846 in the parish church of Muckamore Grange their children included John, William, Thomas, Margaret Ann, Mary and Henry. Henry McMILLAN was first a railway porter then a constable in the RUC. He resigned from the RUC married Catherine ORR MORRISON on 15 Sep 1874 in the parish church in Tamlaght O'Crilly Co Antrim and immediately stepped aboard the "Avalanche" and came to New Zealand where they settled at Saltwater Creek in North Canterbury and raised a family of eleven.

BALLANTINE's & the ORR's from Innisrush Co DERRY

Robert BALLANTINE married Catherine ORR about 1825 They had six children of whom their second son also named Robert married Margaret Ann ARMSTRONG in 1854 in Innisrush. Robert and Margaret set out for Australia and arrived in Sydney Aus in 1855 aboard the "Sirious" leaving from Birkenhead Liverpool. Robert's sister Elizabeth Ballantine born about 1835 also emigrated to Australia and married in 1855 in Scone NSW to William MORRISON a Scottish goldminer. They had six children the eldest Catherine Orr MORRISON who eventually returned to Ireland and married Henry McKewon McMILLAN. These two then emigrated to New Zealand.

My FARRELL family have been proving quite difficult to pin down. I am reasonably sure that Thomas FARRELL married Ann CUTHBERT about 1843 in Co Cavan. They then arrived in Australia and settled in Victoria. I have found 6 children (confirmed) for the marriage but I also believe that David FARRELL born about 1842 is their son. David came to New Zealand sometime in the very early 1860's and married Lucy HAMLETT. There were two daughters to this marriage and then David 'disappears'. Although an obituary is placed in the local newspaper of the time there is no proof that David died (supposedly in Australia) This allowed his 'wife' to marry again.

DORAN's from Castleisland Co KERRY

The DORAN connection has been frustrating and almost impossible to research. David DORAN was born (according to his marriage certificate) about 1842 in Geelong Victoria Australia. He has noted that his parents names were Michael DORAN and Mary nee BURKE. I have found a marriage for Michael and Mary at the church in Castleisland in Co Kerry but have never been able to find anything that shows their entry into Australia or any other information that can pinpoint them at all. No doubt as the years go by and indexes and information is made more widely available I may be able to find my connection. This is my father's family and I am disappointed that I am unable to add more to the family information.
